Yet again no knitted character

My story is much the same as others here: Ordered 5th December. Nothing heard from them until the email everyone else received to say they were being sent by a guaranteed next day service on 21st Dec, then another one to say they'd all been sent. No delivery on 22nd, 23rd or 24th, and I stayed in all three days to wait (and sign) for it, effectively tying me to the house when I could have been out doing Christmas shopping etc. I sent many email queries from 22nd onwards, both direct by email to them and via Google Checkout, each time only receiving an automated email reply.

Today, I tried the method they outlined on their first post on the MSE forum: Sent them an email using UNDELIVERED + my order number in the subject line, and to give them their due, they issued an almost immediate refund via Google Checkout, plus an email to say that it the product now arrived I should retain it in lieu of apology. I'm still angry about the way they've dealt with this matter and at all the inconvenience (plus the lack of a knitted character) but at least I'm not out of pocket from the experience. If the KC turns up now it'll be a bonus, but I'm not holding my breath. On my Google Checkout page, the status remained at 'not yet dispatched' throughout, so I'm pretty sure mine was never even sent.

Knitted Character Files Updated

More Tales of woe

Hi,

I am sending you 'my story' after seeing your post on MoneySavingExpert, I have posted numerous messages as DrScott.

I ordered my knitted character on 29.11.09 after reading their messages on the site that stated all items ordered would be delivered between 7-14.12.09. I paid through paypal directly as I couldn't get the checkout option to function. After sending my payment I heard nothing, I had no confirmation so contacted them to ensure that the order had been placed. I received the following (after the automated one of course) -

03.12.09
Hello - all confirmed Scott.

Hope this helps.

When 14.12.09 came and went I began to get worried but allowed a couple of days for postal delays. By 17.12.09 I still had received nothing so sent the following email:

Hi Sally,

I am still yet to receive the Knitted Character and am just enquiring as to whether it has been posted out yet. The only reason I worry is because Christmas is looming ever-closer. Do you post items out standard Royal Mail or another carrier?
Thanks,
Scott.

I got no response but allowed them some time to reply; nothing.

By the 19th I was getting anxious and contacted them again with this:

Hi,
I am still yet to receive the Knitted Character.
Can you help?
Thanks,
Scott.

I received the following message:

That was the last I heard from the BMG Burp team and no tracking number or parcel has been forthcoming. I have had no response to any further emails.

I am extremely disappointed with Sally et al. at BMG Burp, they offered promises that were clearly false. I didn't leave the house between 22-24th where possible and ensured that someone was manning the house i.e. Parents and Grandparents when unavoidable, which caused major disruption during this busy Christmas time. Furthermore, due to a extremely difficult year I have been left in financial hardship and this was the only present that I bought for anyone this year. (Me and my Girlfriend agreed a £15 limit as I couldn't afford any more. I didn't buy anything else for Family or Friends.) Thus in not receiving anything, I have been left inconvienced, embarrassed at having nothing to give on Christmas day, and out of pocket with nothing to show for it.

I began a non item receipt claim via paypal on 26.12.09 but have had no response from BMG Burp. I have also sent them an UNDELIVERED email as per their post on MoneySavingExpert but, surprise surprise, no response yet.

I am disgusted with the way this company conducts business. They have fed me numerous lies promising guaranteed delivery when this was never the case, in other words, they offered reassurance when they had nothing to base it on. This demonstrates their shocking customer service and distinct lack of compassion.

I'm still waiting for my item.

Hi,

I've missed something off my previous email to you.
It's another email I received from Sally on 19.12.09

This one states that I would be receiving a tracking number.
This has proved as elusive the the Knitted Character itself.

Thanks,
Scott Varney.

I hope this is helpful, anything else just contact me on this address,
Keep up the good work,
Scott Varney.

We have spotted a knitted Character

Hello - my sincere sympathies for all those trying to get Knitted Characters out of BMG Burp Ltd. I ordered 3 on November 29th and in the e-mail acknowledgement was promised delivery for week beginning 4th December, then 12th December. By 21st December, still no KC. They then sent out a mass e-mail saying that all KCs ordered before 15th December had been dispatched - but this wasn't true.

Any attempt to communicate with them just got a generic e-mail, and they do not give a phone number on their website. Following an e-mail to them threatening referral to Trading Standards, my KCs arrived on December 23rd - still very poor for goods ordered and paid for at the end of November.

If you have been badly treated by this company, let Adam at the Harry Hill fansite know - he was very helpful - harryhillfansite@yahoo.co.uk

In the meantime, and I know it's not much consolation, here is a picture of my Knitted Character out for a walk here in the Welsh Borders.

Keep pestering these people and don't let them get away with it!

Best wishes to all Knitted Character fans

The Knitted Character Files

My story starts on Tuesday 8th December 2009.

Whilst ordering the Harry Hill DVD on Amazon I noticed that there was a related website to purchase Harry Hills knitted character. I subsequently went through this site via Amazon to find to my delight that I too could own a knitted character.

The company that were selling them were BMG Burp, Warwick Hall Heath, Cardiff, CF14 3NR

So I made my purchase and eagerly awaited delivery.

After mentioning to my work colleagues that I had purchased a knitted character one of them decided to have a look at the website and she too placed an order on the 10th of December 2009.

Now this being the last day for ordering before Christmas after placing her order she emailed BMG Burp to confirm that it would arrive in time.

She received a reply from ‘Sally’ confirming that she would definitely receive the knitted character for Christmas. On hearing this I too was confident that my order would be fulfilled.

On Monday 21st of December my colleague again emailed BMG burp to clarify that her knitted character had or was being sent out in time for Christmas. She again received an email from ‘Sally’ confirming that her order had indeed been dispatched.

At this point I was still in ignorant bliss eagerly anticipating the arrival of my knitted character. Not dreaming that anything was amiss as I had used a sponsored link from the Amazon website of which I frequently use. My only concern was that my husband was now at home for the holidays and that he may well inadvertently open the parcel containing the knitted character, so spoiling his surprise.

Christmas Eve and on returning home that morning to find that the postman had been and gone. You can imagine my utter disappointment that no knitted character had been delivered.

Luckily for me (and my husband) I had got other Christmas gifts to give and was not relying on this being his only present, but an extra surprise.

Over the Christmas period I went onto Amazon to access the BMG Burp website but found to my horror that the sponsored link was not there. At this point I concluded that I had been scammed and was annoyed that if I had been I had also got a work colleague involved.

On starting back to work on Monday 27th December 2009 I expressed my concerns to my work colleague who told me that she too had gone on to their website directly but it had been closed for maintenance over the Christmas period. The site was expected to be up and running that afternoon.

That day My colleague after finishing work and checking her mail again emailed ‘Sally’ at BMG Burp expressing her disappointment that her knitted character had not turned up in time for Christmas.

She again received an email from ‘Sally’ saying it had been sent out and that a second character was being sent out by next day delivery and that she would also be refunded her original cost.

On Tuesday 28th December I emailed BMG expressing my disappointment at the non delivery of my character and was assured in an email from 'Sally’ that my knitted character would be delivered by next day delivery and that she was sorry that my original order went astray. At this point I also emailed Amazon as I felt they should take some responsibility as they have a sponsored link from their website (of which they make money).

New Years Eve came and went and still no knitted character. Another email was sent to BMG which received the standard response.

After searching the internet it appears that I am not the only person who has been taken in by this website and there may well be many other who are awaiting their knitted characters.

Many people may feel that this is rather pathetic worrying about whether a knitted character arrives in time for Christmas but when I make a purchase via a sponsored link from a large corporate company like Amazon I expect that order to be fulfilled.

Having been on the Money Expert Forum I now realise that I am not the only person to be taken in by this company.

The questions then have to be asked.

Is BMG Burp a legitimate company? Is this a scam? Or some Welsh cottage industry that has got in over its head and been overwhelmed by the number of orders placed. Does ‘Sally’ exist? and is my knitted character still a ball of wool? And will we ever learn the truth?

You may also be one of those awaiting a knitted character if so email us your story at whereismyknittedcharacter@googlemail.com and we will publish it on this blog.

On the other hand if you are the lucky recipient of a knitted character please tell us your story and send a photo to show us that he really does exist.
